Job Description for the M365 architect


Role Overview

The M365 Architect will lead the design, governance, and modernization of our Microsoft 365 ecosystem. This role requires deep expertise across the M365 platform, strong architectural judgment, and the ability to translate business needs into scalable, secure, and user‑centric solutions. The architect will partner with engineering, security, compliance, and business stakeholders to drive adoption, optimize collaboration experiences, and ensure the platform evolves with organizational needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and design end‑to‑end M365 solutions across Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Power Platform, and Entra ID.
  • Define and enforce M365 governance, including security, compliance, lifecycle management, and tenant configuration standards.
  • Lead modernization initiatives, including migration from legacy collaboration platforms, content restructuring, and workflow automation.
  • Develop enterprise‑grade architectures that ensure scalability, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with Security & Compliance teams to implement DLP, retention, eDiscovery, sensitivity labels, and Zero Trust principles.
  • Drive Teams and SharePoint adoption, including information architecture, site strategy, and collaboration patterns.
  • Provide architectural oversight for integrations between M365 and enterprise applications.
  • Evaluate new M365 capabilities and guide roadmap decisions, ensuring alignment with business priorities.
  • Mentor engineering teams and provide technical leadership across implementation and operations.
  • Create architectural documentation, standards, and reference models for consistent delivery.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise collaboration platforms, with 7+ years focused on Microsoft 365.
  • Deep expertise in:
  • SharePoint Online architecture (site design, IA, hub strategy, content services)
  • Microsoft Teams (governance, voice, app integrations)
  • Exchange Online (hybrid, mail flow, security)
  • Entra ID (identity architecture, conditional access, SSO)
  • Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, governance)
  • Strong understanding of M365 security & compliance frameworks.
  • Experience designing large‑scale migrations (SharePoint, Exchange, file shares).
  • Ability to create high‑quality architectural artifacts (HLDs, LLDs, roadmaps).
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience working in global, complex enterprise environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BTech / Master's in computer science or equivalent degree in engineering in preferred
  • Microsoft certifications such as MS‑600, MS‑700, MS‑720, MS‑900, SC‑300, SC‑400, or Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert.
  • Experience with Copilot for M365 and AI‑driven productivity solutions.
  • Background in Zero Trust, modern endpoint management, or hybrid cloud architecture.
  • Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Graph API).

  • Strong proficiency in GraphQL, essential for efficient data retrieval and manipulation.
  • Advanced skills in designing, implementing, and optimizing GraphQL APIs for seamless integration with frontend and backend systems.
  • Expertise in Shell scripting for automating system tasks and managing server configurations.
  • High level of familiarity with Shell commands and scripting techniques to streamline processes.
  • Deep understanding of technologies with 5-30 years of experience, showcasing ability to architect solutions and troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Experience in mentoring junior team members in GraphQL and Shell scripting would be an added advantage.
  • Robust foundation in software engineering principles and practices for executing projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Education: BTech / Master's in Computer Science or equivalent degree in engineering (preferred).
  • Certification: MS-600 (preferred).
